Hello! I’m Karen,
I was born and raised near Fairbanks, Alaska. I grew up immersed in nature and have always loved the outdoors. I’ve had amazing experiences in the beautiful state of Alaska including guiding paddle raft and backpack trips in the Brooks Range; sea kayaking in Prince William Sound; skiing, snow-machining, and winter camping; flying in bush planes; and more! I’ve lived in interesting homes both summer and winter including wall tents, dry log cabins, and a yurt!
I enjoy traveling and exploring wild and urban spaces. My road trips tend to include hiking, beach time, wilderness parks, cool coffee shops, and visits with friends around the USA and Canada.
“I believe in embracing our humanity and bringing the power of vulnerability and mindfulness to leadership.”
I started my education career in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District in the mid 90’s. After being a teacher, high school administrator, and assistant superintendent, I served as superintendent of schools from 2014 to 2021.
Over the course of 26 years in education, with 20 of those in administration, I came to recognize the diminishing returns of the competitive mindset I learned in my youth. I shifted my approach to building relationships and empowering highly functional teams to achieve results through collaboration and courageous conversations.
I believe in the power of embracing our humanity and bringing vulnerability and mindfulness to leadership. Creating spaces and facilitating activities that create connection and empower leaders and teams is transformational!
I’ve tested and curated activities to help individuals, partners and teams build trust, create connection, improve alignment, engage in self-care, establish boundaries, embrace creativity, and thrive in their organizations. I’ve watched people and teams transform as they improve relationships, shift mindsets, talk consciously about stressors, reframe beliefs, overcome obstacles, and meet challenges in new ways.
I’m excited to share my talents with you.
